Orthotics

Custom OrthodicsYour feet are like the foundation on a house—they provide the necessary support for everything that rests above them. If the foundation of a house is not structurally sound, then the window frames, walls and levels of the house will not be properly aligned. Furthermore, cracks in the drywall and sounds in the walls and/or floorboards may start to appear.

The same is true for your body. When your feet don’t properly support you, it causes unnecessary rotation to the ankles, knees, hips and spine. If foot biomechanics and support problems aren’t addressed at an early stage, it will cause abnormal structure in the body and lead to secondary conditions such as knee pain, early knee degeneration, hip pain, sciatica, headaches, neck pain and other symptoms to develop.

To correct abnormal structural conditions in the feet, we recommend orthotics. Orthotics fit into nearly all fitness shoes, dress shoes (loafers, pumps, and flats), ski boots, snowboard boots and many other styles of footwear.

At Carlsbad Chiropractor, we utilize some of the latest advances in the evaluation of foot structure and biomechanics from a company known as Footmaxx (www.footmaxx.com). Footmaxx stands out from all other companies with their proprietary scanning technology performed in a dynamic state. What do we mean by dynamic? Well, most foot scans and orthotics molds are conducted in a non weight-bearing position (i.e. seated or lying on your back). Footmaxx technology allows you to be evaluated not only in a weight-bearing position, but also while you’re walking.

The result is the most accurate representation of how your foot articulates with the ground when you walk. Furthermore, the orthotics can be customized for the type of shoe used and other accommodations can be made for conditions such as toe bunions or diabetes.
